After the enforced winter weather break everyone was just pleased to get a game on again, and it gave the Wath lads a chance to avenge their early season defeat. Wath this time had a full squad to choose from. They started brightley with early half chances for Alex Ward and James Swann but they couldn't convert them and Thorncliffe hit back forcing Georgie Botham into action saving with his legs when the Thorncliffe striker was clean through on goal. This scare produced an immeadiate reaction from the Wath lads and midway through the first half skipper Liam Mitchell spotting the keeper off his line produced a measured chip from the edge of the area to give Wath a deserved lead. Wath pressed hard and played some decent football on a very heavy pitch but could not extend their lead and so went in at half time with a slender one goal advantage.
The second half followed much the same pattern as the first half with Wath making most of the play but while there was only one goal in it Thorncliffe always looked a threat and sure enough but for a flying full length diving save from Georgie Botham the game could have changed. However Wath's pressure eventually paid off when an excellent through ball from Kelham Bennett released Regan Wild who duly applied the cool finish to give Wath the comfort of a two goal advantage. Now Wath took total command and but for some excellent saves from the Thorncliffe keeper the score could have doubled. Tiredness on both sides was expected but they both bravely battled on to the final whistle.
Final score Thorncliffe 0-2 Wath St James
